Eight persons arrested in college students attack case

The police said eight college students have been arrested on Monday in connection with an attack near Chennai Central Railway Station. At 10.15 a.

m. on Monday Nitheesh Kumar, 18, and a 17-year-old student were on their way to college through the subway connecting Chennai Central suburban railway station with Central Metro station when they were intercepted by a group of college students.The gang allegedly attacked the duo with knives, leaving both injured.

Members of the public rescued the victims and rushed them to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Based on a complaint, the Periamet police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the inquiry, the police found that the attack was the fallout of a long-standing rivalry between groups of students residing along the Gummidipoondi railway line and the Tiruttani railway line, who were competing for dominance.
