Economic self-reliance key to India’s rise in new global order: S. Gurumurthy

Noted economist and thinker S. Gurumurthy said self-reliance was not a recent concept but was deeply rooted in India’s civilisational ethos and social fabric. He observed that the United States could lose its position as a superpower in the coming years as it lacked the civilisational foundation that supported countries such as India and China.

He also cautioned that, as the country’s global influence increased, certain foreign forces were attempting to create internal divisions and weaken the nation by creating differences among its people, stating that India was emerging as a strong economic and geopolitical power.Delivering a talk on “Democracy, Diplomacy and Development: Foregrounding India’s People, Partnerships and Progress” at an event organised by the Forum for Nationalist Thinkers in Hyderabad, Mr. Gurumurthy explained the intrinsic link between Atmanirbhar Bharat and contemporary geopolitics.

He emphasised that economic self-reliance was essential for safeguarding India’s national interests and strengthening its position in the emerging global order.Referring to the entrepreneurial culture of Ludhiana and several other traditional industrial and commercial centres across the country, he highlighted how enterprise, innovation and self-employment had flourished in Indian society for generations.Referring to recent protests in Delhi, he said such developments should be viewed in the broader geopolitical context and that citizens needed to remain vigilant against attempts to create unrest and instability.

He underlined that economic self-reliance, social cohesion, national unity and civilisational consciousness were essential for ensuring India’s continued progress and protecting the country from external interference. BJP Telangana unit president N. Ramchander Rao, Dr.

A.V. Guruva Reddy and others were present.
