Court allows DVAC to conduct further probe in case against ex-Minister Vaithilingam

A designated court for corruption cases has accorded permission to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to conduct further investigation “as expeditiously as possible” in the ₹27.9-crore corruption case involving R. Vaithilingam, who was the Housing Minister in the AIADMK regime, and submit a report in three months.

The court passed orders on a petition filed by the DVAC, seeking permission to investigate the case further. Mr. Vaithilingam, currently a DMK legislator, was the Minister for Housing and Urban Development in the AIADMK regime from 2011 to 2016.

The investigating agency had registered a case against him on September 19, 2024, for an alleged offence he had committed while serving as Minister.Mr. Vaithilingam resigned his post as AIADMK MLA in January this year and joined the DMK, which was in power at the time.
