Colts writer urges Indianapolis to trade for Steelers star
The Steelers could send away a star defender to an AFC foe.

They have made 11 trades involving players dating back to March, 2024. The latest trade pulled off by Omar Khan brought in wide receiver Michael Pittman, sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Pittman and a 2026 seventh-round pick. And with the 2026 season on the horizon, one Colts writer wants to see the two teams come together for another trade.
Ernesto Cova of FanSided’s Horseshoe Heroes says that Indianapolis should do all it can to acquire pass rusher Alex Highsmith from the Steelers.“Highsmith is one of the most underrated headhunters in the game,” Cova writes. “A former third-round pick, he’s logged 91 quarterback hits, 64 tackles for loss, and 45 sacks in his six years, all with the Steelers.
As such, Mike McCarthy’s team should want to keep him around for the remainder of his career. Nevertheless, the Steelers just gave fellow pass rusher Nick Herbig a $100 million contract extension, and they were already paying T.J.
Watt $41 million a year. Herbig still has two years left in his four-year, $68 million contract (all figures per Spotrac). There’s only so much money to throw around, so they might be forced to make a decision soon.”
The Steelers don’t have to make a trade this season, but it’s a near guarantee that they will move one of Highsmith or T.J. Watt in 2027, as Herbig’s extension will kick in.
Highsmith’s name has been a popular one in terms of trade talks due to the extension for Herbig, as well as many believing the team won’t trade Watt.Let us know what you think in the comments. Be sure to bookmark Behind the Steel Curtain for all the latest news, breakdowns, and more!
