CMRL to begin work on commercial hub at Thirumangalam in September

Chennai Metro Rail will finally begin the construction of the commercial hub, comprising four towers, planned at Thirumangalam in September after some delays. Chennai Metro Phase II trains to zip through high-rises in Thirumangalam, work to commence soonThirumangalam will have two stations — an elevated station coming up as part of the Phase II network and the already functional underground station of the Phase I network. There will be an on-ground walkway that will link both stations, and its design is being worked out.
On the 118.9-km Phase II network, Thirumangalam will be linked to corridor 5, which will run from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. From Madhavaram, the corridor will pass through Velmurugan Nagar, Retteri, Villivakkam, Anna Nagar West, Thirumangalam, Koyambedu, Virugambakkam, Ramapuram, Chennai Trade Centre, Madipakkam, Kovilambakkam, and Perumbakkam to reach Sholinganallur, running for a distance of 47 km and comprising both elevated and underground stretches.
Adjacent to the elevated Thirumangalam Metro station, which is coming up on 3.85 acres, four towers will be built. The towers will be linked to the station by a skywalk, and trains will pass through the second tower.
According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), they have finalised the contract for building the four towers, with the estimated cost being nearly ₹400 crore. The towers will house shopping areas and office spaces while also providing easy access to the Metro Rail network.“As the design for the commercial hub is already ready, there will no further delays.
The contract will be awarded within a few weeks, and work will begin in September,” an official said. From the date of the award of contract, the firm will have two-and-a-half-years to complete the construction of this project.Krishna Raj M.
R. of Thirumangalam said: “While the project can make the locality more vibrant and make commuting easier, meeting deadlines is equally important. There is no doubt that Metro Rail has made commuting convenient but they have to be reasonable and complete the construction on time.
