Chief Minister to visit Karur to meet the kin of stampede victims on July 10

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit Karur on Friday, July 10, to meet the families of the victims of the stampede during a TVK rally that claimed 41 lives last year.T.
S. Anbu, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, on Tuesday reviewed the security arrangements ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit, which will be his first to Karur since the stampede. It will also be his first visit to Karur since becoming Chief Minister.
According to sources, he will spend about five hours in Karur. He will reach the city around 11 a.m.
, and is scheduled to meet the kin of the stampede victims at the Collector’s office, where an official function is being arranged.The officials have reached out to the relatives of those killed in the stampede and invited them to attend the function. Arrangements are being made to bring them to the venue.
Mr. Vijay will also lay the foundation for a private footwear manufacturing unit in Karur.He will also address a public meeting organised by the Karur unit of the TVK at Atlas Kalaiarangam on the outskirts of the city.
Arrangements are being made to accommodate about 5,000 people.Mr. Anbu, accompanied by V.
Balakrishnan, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Sibi Chakravarti, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range and D.N. Harikiran Prasad, Superintendent of Police, Karur, visited the proposed meeting spots and reviewed the security arrangements.
Police personnel from Karur, Namakkal, Tiruchi and other neighbouring districts have been drawn for security.Collector C. Muthukumaran, who held a series of meetings with the officials, told The Hindu that the Chief Minister would meet the kin of the victims who died in the stampede.
All of his official engagements would be held at the Collector Office. Elaborate arrangements were being made to ensure smooth conduct of the programmes, he said.
