When Victoria Carmona got on base, she was off and running. The West Broward star outfielder paced Broward County and was 11th in Florida with 37 steals, combining her speed with power at the plate. The junior is the Sun Sentinel Broward County 7A-5A player of the year.

Carmona has always had speed. She stole 28 bases in each of the last two seasons. She spent the offseason working on her power and ability to drive in runs.

She worked on her mechanics and learned to read defensive alignments better.“I used the pitching machine a lot this year so I could get used to fast, slow, curveball, screwball, anything that could really help me in the box,” Carmona said. The work paid off.

Carmona had seven extra-base hits as a sophomore in 2025 (two doubles, three triples, two home runs). This season, she had 16 extra-base hits — nine doubles, five triples and a pair of home runs. Carmona raised her OPS from 1.

077 in 2025 to 1.459 this year.“I started off pretty hot and it was more of a consistent game and not letting when I bat affect me,” Carmona said.

“I kind of made it a goal to get on base at least one time every single game and have quality at-bats.”Carmona has another year of high school softball remaining. After that, she plans to go to Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.

“I always wanted to go out of state, at least somewhere far from home. I definitely wanted to venture out and see who I am as a person,” Carmona said. “Longwood is a smaller town.

No one really knows where (it is). I really like the small-town vibe. Everyone, all the locals ride for that school.

They all come out to the games, the local food places, they sponsor the teams. And I think that homey, small-town feel is really what drew me there. And obviously the campus itself, it’s beautiful, right smack in the middle of Virginia.

And I genuinely can see myself growing as a person there.”
