During the 20th anniversary livestream for the book, Sanderson revealed that fans shouldn't expect the upcoming screen adaptation to arrive next year. Sanderson explained that the film is still in the very early stages. At the time of this article's publication, the author explained how right now the main focus is on the script.

He further elaborated, stating that he expects there to be a lot more revisions to come. Sanderson added that they haven't even begun searching for a director for Mistborn yet, and likely won't be until the screenplay is ready to go. He said that it's going to be a long process, and that while he would love to announce a major milestone, it would be unrealistic to say that the movie would be released next year.
