Berlin Pride crash latest: Police name 21-year-old suspectThe suspect in the attack on a Pride event in Berlin yesterday has been shot and killed by police.Berlin Police said the suspect, previously named as 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, was fatally shot ⁠at ⁠an allotment garden complex in the city's Spandau suburb at about 6pm. Germany’s interior minister Alexander Dobrindt said that the suspect rammed people with a car and then attacked the crowd with a blade, which “might have been a machete”.One person was killed and 29 were injured in the incident at 10pm in the Tiergarten park area of Berlin, where crowds were celebrating the annual Christopher Street Day Parade. Dobrindt that "everything we are seeing here indicates that we have experienced an Islamist attack".

The 21-year-old is a German citizen of Lebanese background who was known to police. He was previously sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison, which was switched to a non-custodial sentence due to a legal complaint, Dobrindt said. Hundreds of thousands of people had come to Berlin on Saturday to celebrate at Berlin’s pride parade, known in Germany as Christopher Street Day.
