Bengals QB Joe Burrow falls behind just 1 name in new rankings
Joe Burrow is a top-five player. But he's behind one name in a new set of three-year rankings.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is a staple of top-five lists this offseason, like most. Where Burrow actually fits within the top five, though, is something that becomes one of the hotter debates out there. Burrow typically gets fierce competition from the usual suspects like Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
One of the more notable rankings of late comes from Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick of Pro Football Focus, where the rankings were assembled by three seasons of data, creating a set where Burrow lands second overall. “A severe turf toe injury limited him to just eight games and 259 dropbacks in 2025, but his play never slipped, Wasserman and Chadwick wrote. “Burrow earned a 91.
3 PFF passing grade that ranked second among qualifying quarterbacks. He also posted the lowest turnover-worthy play rate by any quarterback with at least 250 dropbacks in the PFF era (2006-present) and finished above the 95th percentile in four of PFF's six most stable passing metrics.”Burrow has had injuries and some poor offensive lines, never mind bad defenses, marring him over the last few years, so that plays a role.
Understandably, this slots Burrow behind only Allen on the rankings, though the writeup makes sure to mention that “there's still a compelling argument that nobody plays quarterback better.”Hard to complain about having the No. 2 overall quarterback in the NFL defined by the position, of course.
But the Bengals are hoping that a revamped defense and the first starting-five linemen returning for a second season help Burrow live up to that argument, which would likely land him No. 1 on lists like this.
