BettaF!sh products are sold through retailers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In a statement, Bayou Best Foods pointed to the companies' "complementary strengths" in innovation and distribution.
Bayou Best Foods CEO Kelli Wilson said: "We share the same belief that seafood should be delicious, accessible, and sustainable, and we see enormous potential in what we can build together." Once the deal is completed, there are plans to take each other's products into their respective markets. Wilson told Just Food she is aiming to launch Bayou Best Foods' plant-based shrimp in Europe in the third quarter.
BettaF!sh sells seaweed-based products including Tu-Nah, a tuna alternative, and Sal-Nom, a salmon substitute. The products are slated for the US market in the first half of next year.

Family-owned Schouten Europe said it acquired Bobeldijk Food Group to boost its production capacity and "strengthen" its position in the region.
