Assam police arrest 2 ULFA(I) members, avert ‘terror strike’

The Assam police claimed it averted a major terror strike by apprehending two members of the banned United Liberation of Asom (Independent) in Tinsukia district on Friday (June 26, 2026). Changlang is one of the three “TCL” districts of Arunachal Pradesh, where several factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) have been active. The “T” and “L” stand for Tirap and Longding districts.Members of the ULFA(I) and other Assam-based extremist groups often take the help of NSCN cadres for hit-and-run operations from their clandestine camps in the Sagaing Division of Myanmar across the TCL districts.
The NSCN’s Khaplang group and its sub-groups run the camps in Sagaing Division, charging money from other outfits for shelter, arms supply, and training.
