Private enterprises are driving a surge in artificial intelligence hiring in China, contributing nearly 60 percent of all AI-related job openings over the past year, according to a new industry report. The report, titled "2026 Artificial Intelligence Talent Insights" and published last week by the Chinese job recruitment platform 51job, found that large-scale companies with over 1,000 employees are leading this hiring push, posting the fastest growth in job vacancies. Artificial intelligence roles have rapidly expanded beyond pure technology firms, now spanning 22 distinct sectors of the real economy.

General AI and algorithm-focused positions make up nearly 80 percent of all active recruiting. Robotics and large language models represent the second and third most active sectors for job postings, respectively. While basic skills in algorithms, models, and artificial intelligence remain foundational, Chinese employers are increasingly seeking specialized expertise in practical applications.

Job requirements for advanced methodologies, such as AI Agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, and Large Language Models, are climbing rapidly. This highly specialized demand is reflected in both strict hiring criteria and substantial compensation. More than 40 percent of the posted positions require a master's degree or higher, and 60 percent demand between five and 10 years of deep experience in a specific vertical industry.

Financially, the median monthly salary for AI-related roles stands at 25,340 yuan. High-level research and development directors, department heads, and industry experts command average monthly salaries of nearly 55,000 yuan, while standard AI and algorithm specialists typically earn over 28,000 yuan per month. Geographically, China's key economic clusters dominate the talent market.

The Yangtze River Delta and the Greater Bay Area together account for nearly 70 percent of national job demand. Cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Hangzhou continue to lead the country in both total hiring volume and overall compensation levels.
