Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APSRTC) Employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Sunday said thousands of APSRTC employees across the State would submit memorandums, signed by employees, to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu through the respective District Collectors on Monday(July 27) as part of the JAC’s State-wide protest. In a statement, JAC conveners Y.

Srinivasa Rao and P. Damodara Rao urged the State government to withdraw its policy of operating electric buses through private operators. Instead, they demanded that electric buses be procured and operated exclusively by the State-owned APSRTC, with services run by APSRTC employees.

The employee leaders said that if the government was serious about strengthening the public transport system, it should focus on procuring new buses, filling vacant posts and improving passenger services, rather than adopting policies that, they alleged, would weaken the corporation. They reiterated that employees would strongly oppose any move aimed at privatising APSRTC.The JAC leaders said the State-wide employee signature campaign, conducted from July 20, had received an overwhelming response from employees across all categories, reflecting their commitment to protecting APSRTC as a public sector undertaking.

They said the government was expected to respond after receiving the memorandums. The APPTD (APSRTC) Employees’ JAC State Committee would review the government’s response at its meeting in Vijayawada on July 30 and announce its future course of action based on the outcome.
