Throughout her career, Jolie has made a significant name for herself both in front of and behind the camera. This has included award-winning performances, including her role in Girl, Interrupted, for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She has also been crafting her behind-the-camera roles over the years, directing films such as Unbroken and First They Killed My Father.

However, not all of Jolie's films have proven to be hits. For every positively reviewed movie she has, the actor has also made her fair share of "rotten" Tomatometer scoring entries. Such movies include The Tourist, Hackers, and By the Sea.

Jolie's latest film, Couture, has unfortunately fallen into this latter group. The film's Rotten Tomatoes score has recently debuted, and it has just a 52% Tomatometer approval. This score comes from the 85 critics who have reviewed it thus far.

Audiences have been even less forgiving, with Couture holding a 46% Popcornmeter. Couture intends to be a gripping and dramatic portrait of the filmmaking and fashion industry. It captures the story of Maxine Walker (Jolie), an American filmmaker who arrives at Paris Fashion Week only to receive news that will dramatically change her life.

Directed by Alice Winoccur, the Jolie-led film also stars Anyier Anei, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon, and Ella Rumpf. The film's detractors pick at Couture's story and script, saying the film squanders what could be an interesting portrait of the fashion industry. Most praise seems to be directed at Jolie, whose "vulnerable performance," as per the review from ScreenRant's Graeme Guttmann, grounds an otherwise underwhelming film.

Despite its mixed reviews, Couture does have one record going for it. The film is the first fictional movie ever to film scenes inside of Chanel's Paris showroom. While unfortunate that a film shot in such an iconic location did not garner more praise, it is nonetheless a point of intrigue in Couture that might appeal to people interested in high fashion.

Couture originally premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. Now, it is getting a small release in the United States and the Middle East. The film's mixed reviews will not be a point in its favor toward theatrical success, but the Jolie performance sounds strong enough to warrant a streaming comeback later down the line.
