ACB books energy utility divisional engineer in disproportionate assets case, seizes properties worth ₹27.65 crore

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a disproportionate assets case against Mutyam Venkata Ramana, Divisional Engineer of the Renewable Energy Development Corporation (REDCO), for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income through corrupt practices during his service.The case was registered by the ACB’s City Range-2 unit under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Simultaneous searches were conducted on Wednesday at his residence, office and seven other premises linked to his relatives, associates and alleged benamidars.

During the searches, the ACB unearthed assets estimated at ₹27.65 crore, including four residential flats in Serilingampally and Kukatpally valued at ₹1.23 crore, a G+3 commercial building in Kukatpally valued at ₹1.

82 crore, a G+5 commercial building in Guttala Begumpet valued at over ₹2.90 crore, bank deposits worth ₹52.02 lakh, gold ornaments weighing 2,094 grams valued at around ₹40 lakh, three vehicles valued at ₹45 lakhs, household articles, electronic gadgets valued at ₹30 lakhs and 20 liquor bottles worth around ₹2.

The agency said the market value of the immovable properties is expected to be significantly higher than their official valuation.Further enquiries revealed that the officer had allegedly invested in the construction sector through four firms registered in his wife’s name and constructed 10 residential apartments at Anjaneya Nagar, Moosapet, with an estimated investment of ₹20 crore.

The ACB said Ramana had earlier been arrested in December 2019 while serving as Divisional Engineer (Technical) in the Cyber City Circle of the Hyderabad electricity department for accepting a ₹25,000 bribe to process an estimate approval file. A charge sheet has already been filed in that case.Including the assets detected during the earlier trap case, including net cash amounting to ₹26.

52 lakh and gold ornaments worth ₹22.60 lakh, the officer’s total assets are over ₹28.14 crore, the ACB said.

The accused was produced before the special court for SPE and ACB Cases in Hyderabad. Further investigation is underway.
