5 students in Aklan faint amid brownout, intense heat

Courtesy: GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas At least five female students of a school in Aklan fainted near midday on June 18, 2026 at a time when the school was experiencing a brownout.According to the school head, they did not have electricity since the first period and it was very hot that morning.

The students, all in high school, fainted in their classrooms.One of the five students would reportedly faint often when temperatures rise. Another one has asthma."

Three of the students were brought to the rural health unit (RHU) while the two were sent home when they regained consciousness.Dr. Laira Bacay of the rural health unit said it is possible that the students suffered from heat exhaustion."'

The three students who were brought to the RHU recovered, eventually.Due to the heat that morning, other classes in the schools had to be held outside of the classrooms.This is a better set-up during a power interruption, Bacay said, so that the students can breathe in fresh air.

"In case of mga power interruption is medyo nararamdaman po talaga na matindi na ang init sa mga classroom.
