2026 FIFA World Cup knockout round schedule: Kickoff times, dates, fixtures, how to live stream, watch on TV Here's the complete schedule for the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage, which starts June 27 By James Benge Jun 28, 2026 at 12:02 am ET • 4 min read Add CBS Sports on Google Getty Images The biggest group stage om World Cup in history is over. Of the 104 matches across 38 days in 16 host cities in three countries that started the tournament only 32 matches remain before the world champions are crowned. This 48-team tournament is a competition unlike any other.

When this unique tournament started, the field included every former champion bar Italy and four debutants: Cabo Verde, Curacao, Jordan and Uzbekistan. One group stage later and Cabo Verde are still standing among the debutants, while Uruguay have been eliminated from the field of former champions.Hosting for the second time, the U.

S.A. face perhaps the greatest expectations that have ever been placed on them at a World Cup.

The so-called golden generation struggled to build on the hype that followed their run to the knockout stages in 2022 but began the tournament on fire. For the first time in history they won their first two games of the tournament, locking up top spot in Group D and a match with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32. and either Belgium or Senegal in the round of 16.

Teams to watch out for include holders Argentina in what will surely, this time, be Lionel Messi's last dance on the biggest stage of all. The same will be true for a host of other superstars, most notably his old rival Cristiano Ronaldo. It is hard to believe that Neymar, Luka Modric or maybe even Mohamed Salah will have much left in their tank for 2030, but their all among the last 32 teams this time around.

Meanwhile, France will be looking to reclaim the title they won in 2018 and lost in the dramatic final four years later. Spain are many people's favorite, while Brazil, Portugal and England are among the contenders. In short, this promises to be a World Cup knockout stage as full of stories, drama, and thrills as ever.
