1047 Games’ Empulse is a frenetic action shooter homage to Titanfall 2 | early hands-on preview

At its best, 1047 Games takes the best innovations in first-person shooter games and makes them better. It did so with Splitgate, a multiplayer arena game from 2021 that was an homage to Halo multiplayer and Valve’s Portal. And after deciding to jettison Splitgate 2, 1047 Games is now coming out with Empulse, an homage to the fast-action shooter and mech game Titanfall 2.

It’s really timely in part because Electronic Arts seems to have no plan to make Titanfall 3 through its Respawn division. It’s coming out in demo form on Steam on June 15, and I was one of a small number of folks in the world who was able to play the demo early. The game will be available in early access on June 24 on the Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Steam on the PC for $20.

Source: 1047 Games I played it at Summer Game Fest last week and I had a jolly time running and shooting around a vertical arena and jumping into Mechs and laying waste to the opposing team. Then I played a couple of hours with a bunch of creators and they destroyed me to the point where I was getting one kill for every two deaths.

But, hey, I had a good time dying for the cause of bringing you this preview. Comparisons to Titanfall 2 and Splitgate I sat with 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx and he showed me how to play at SGF. In Empulse, you play in 6v6 human multiplayer matches, though I would say some of the players were so bad I felt like I was playing against bots on my first try.

Empulse makes no bones about being a love letter to Titanfall 2, as it’s based on Titanfall’s mobility, where you can stay in constant motion in vertical environments. You can keep your speed and momentum going through wall-running, shooting grappling hooks, vaulting on jump pads and using a kind of hoverpack to stay airborne as you shoot down on others. You can slide and chain together movements seamlessly.

You can also toss a gel dubbed P.A.I.
