The former Pro Bowl wide receiver didn't mince words about the Buffalo Bills safety's playing ability after the defensive back tried to explain his abrupt firing from the Houston Texans. Ad Gardner-Johnson's stay in Houston in 2025 lasted only three games. The New York Post reported that the safety blamed his sudden release from Houston on an off-field confrontation during training camp at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.

According to Gardner-Johnson, an individual who was not technically part of the organization but was a close friend of Texans General Manager Nick Caserio, called him a derogatory name. The safety admitted that he got out of his body during the argument. He claimed the individual was responsible for his release three weeks into the regular season.

The Texans cut Gardner-Johnson in late September after the team collapsed to an ugly 0-3 start. Despite playing 96% of the defensive snaps for Houston, he recorded only 15 tackles and failed to register a single interception or pass deflection.
